We traveled about 100 statute miles - mostly in the Atlantic - to reach Thunderbolt, GA. If we had stayed inside on the ICW it would have been a long 140 statute miles winding through marshes, etc. so we chose the slightly bumpy but much quicker route.
Thunderbolt is a small town, a bit SE of Savannah. It has become a center for big-yacht refits and repairs. Not a place that you need to stay more than one night but it is an easy and safe place to leave the boat while we are in Savannah.
This photo shows us leaving Fernandina Beach Inlet - Fernandina on the left (south of photo) and St. Mary's, GA on right.
The only channel marker we had ever seen with a house....Fernandina Beach ICW.....and Clinch Fort at rest after many years of protecting Fernandina.
Looks like we are in Georgia....the state of lots of columns.
Our homw - Thunderbolt marina.
Tomorrow to The Galloway House in Savannah.
Hi 97 degrees here today in sunny Connecticut. The mosquitos are big enough to carry you away. Hope you had a great day. Diane
