We left Thunderbolt, GA mid-morning and crossed into SCarolina by noon and were nestled up at The Downtown Marina of Beaufort by 1pm.
Beaufort is the second oldest town in SC - currently celebrating its 300th year - and has a 50 yr old Water Festival/Fair that lasts a week in April. Tourism is a big thing here so the downtown is very cute and very clean. There is supposedly a $1000 fine if you are caught littering.
There is great walking both along the waterfront park and on the back streets of the town. We even were lucky enough to be there on the little Farmer's Market Day. Beautiful peaches and homemade peaches and creme breakfast bread.
The size of the tides here are quite amazing - at least 8 feet. You nearly need a tow rope to get up the ramp at low tide....do not wear leather soled shoes!!
Here are 6 pics of the town - Train Bascule Bridge - open, a couple pictures of the waterfront park area, The old Beaufort Bank on the main street, Cass and Bob strolling the back streets, and Beaufort's town anchorage.
Next stop Charleston - the oldest city in SC.
